#prayertag: The Power of Prayer and "The Army of One"

Update: (October 20, 2014) I received an email on Sunday, October 19th:"This is Denise. Mom went to meet Jesus about 12:30 this afternoon. Dad came home from church and found her already gone.  She must have just died as the table was set and food was out ready to be warmed up for lunch.  We figure it was probably an instant thing. She left with such a peaceful look on her face.  I can only imagine the joy she is experiencing now!  Wow.  This is really hard - especially on Dad.  But, our prayers have been answered - she didn't have to go through the awful suffering that often accompanies such cancers.  It was Mom's desire to glorify God through her illness.  It is now our prayer that God will be glorified even more through her death.  Your continued prayers are appreciated.  Love to all, Denise

Update: (August 9, 2014):  There is an answer to prayer on this story. Denise emailed me to say:  "Could you please thank all the girlfriends for praying for Mom?  At the time  they were praying for her, her platelet count was way too low.  That Friday, when she was tested again, it had gone up - way up - by thousands!  God heard the prayers of his people!"

On my Muses of a Mom Facebook page, we are doing a daily #prayertag - tagging other girlfriends who are in need of prayer and coming together to pray for them.  For yesterday's #prayertag, I posted for everyone to pray for Gayle Taylor.

#musesofamom: How to Pray in Unity

Copy and share on your favorite social media page!
For the entire month of July through my Muses of a Mom Facebook page, the entire community of girlfriends are praying for each other! It has been exciting to see the fulfillment of one of the teaching of Jesus from Matthew 18:20 (NIV) :

“For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”

This is a popular verse on prayer, and we know it to mean that if we gather in a small group, God will be there with us and hear us.

#truth.

But there is so much more here that is promised by Jesus.

“For where two or three gather”

In Matthew 18:20, Jesus was teaching his followers that it wasn’t a specific number who had to gather together. It is about unity. If only two are united before God, they will not be alone. There is emphasis here on the “union” of prayer.  We do not just agree to come and pray together, but to pray in unity, or “concert” -- for a definite thing or purpose. (1)   Praying with unity shows our common relationship with God as his people.

“in my name”

Not only are we asked by Jesus to come together in unity when we pray, but to pray with authority in our Father’s name, acting on his behalf in his church(2) (or fellow believers). John 16:23 quotes Jesus telling his disciples that Very truly I tell you, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. Why wouldn't you want to come together and pray in unity when we have His authority?  (See also John 14:14)

“there am I with them”

Read it again.

There am I.

Powerful. Majestic. Royal.  He is the great “I AM”. We are to simply come together in unity and purpose, pray with authority in His name, and He will be there among us.  Although our Heavenly Father is everywhere and in all places, this is a promise of God’s special presence.(3)  He is Emmanuel.  God with us.

This is the purpose of  July's #prayertag - to come together in unity (through the Internet), with a definite purpose (praying for our girlfriends) in His name.  Although we may be across the United States, North America or the World, you can be assured that when we pray together for our girlfriends this month, we are giving Him an invitation to show His presence.

And He will.

Has this been helpful to you?  If so, please share this post with your friends, subscribe by email for updates and follow via one (or more!) of the social media outlets.

#Prayertag: Praying for Each Other

Girlfriends ... Today is the start of a new month, and on my Facebook page, Muses of a Mom, I want to do something encouraging, powerful and earth-shaking in the lives of others: PRAYER!

This is where I Need YOU:

For the month of July, let's pray for each other who need the power of prayer. There isn't even a need to share her story; we can still pray for blessing, favor, and healing over that person! Do you know someone who needs prayer? Someone who needs to be encouraged and uplifted?  Message me through the Facebook page their Facebook name, and I will add them to my list for posting.
